Latest Update: 26th April 2008

26/04/08

Patron Visit

We were thrilled, last Thursday, to welcome our patron Rick Wakeman to the cattery. He called in to have a look round and meet the volunteers and cats. On behalf of everyone at the cattery I'd like to thank Rick for his support and hope that he visits again soon. Click on the thumbnails below to view full-size pictures of his visit.

Precious' stump

You may remember recent news about Precious, one of our lovely resident cats. Poor Precious injured her tail and had to have it amputated. After recovering in a foster home she is now back at the cattery and is doing fine. Her fur is starting to grow back and she's having no problem getting around. Below are some photos of her new stump. Click to view full size.

New Email Address

We now have a new email address for enquiries to the cattery: oldhamcats@tiscali.co.uk.  You should use this if you want to ask us anything about cats we have for rehoming or space we may have to take in unwanted cats.

The old address should only be used for website enquiries. If you want to send a link, report a fault, submit a success story etc. then please use oldham_cats@yahoo.com.

Hopefully this should enable us to better answer questions about cats in our care.

...and finally

Thank you for the comments about the website. I'm glad people are finding it better to use and are no longer experiencing bandwidth problems. As you'll notice, pictures are now included in the news as thumbnails, with links to the full size images. The reason for this is to allow the page to load faster and also to display pictures much larger than we have before. We have very pretty cats and we think you should be able to see them properly.

Welcome to the new and improved Oldham Cats site! Hopefully you'll find it easier to navigate and find the information you're looking for. All the information from the old-look site is still here under the same headings so you shouldn't struggle to find your way about. Additions include a handy 'contact' page with links to our cattery's location on google maps, which also lets you search for directions from any destination.

You may notice that the links to the left are not appearing correctly (this is due to the program used to make the site conflicting with the hosting company). Rest assured, this will be fixed ASAP and the links will all work fine. Similarly there are some link buttons displaying as text only in the articles section. Again, the links work and will be tidied.  I think I have checked every link and button, but if you find something that doesn't work please help me to make improvements by letting me know via email.

Currently you will only see the last month's news here, to make things easier there will be a news archive appearing soon, so you can search back over the last few months and years without having to wait for it all to load on the main screen. There will also be a links page appearing soon, so if you want your site linked here, please let me know.

Website News

You'll notice that this update is very overdue, due to a combination of computer and ISP problems I've not been able to update it so there's quite a lot of information to put on today. Firstly, some people have emailed to say they couldn't access the site at the end of March. The problem was due to the bandwidth on the site but, you'll be glad to know, that won't be happening again. I have upgraded the hosting so that we now have twice the bandwidth. Sorry for any inconvenience this caused.

The Oldham Cats site now features stories about some of the very special cats we have re-homed in a special 'success stories' section. Here you can perhaps see some familiar faces from our re-homing pages as well as seeing how much we rely on caring adoptive families to give our cats the homes they deserve. If you've had a special Oldham Cat and want his or her story featured, please just send an email to the usual address. More heart-warming tales will be added all the time.

Cattery Summer Fayre

As usual, we will be holding our annual Summer Fayre at the cattery this year. It's always a wonderful event where we're proud to show off the work we do as well as greet visitors and catch up with people who have adopted cats from us. We have various stalls and games as well as a great raffle to raise much needed funds and a BBQ. Last year's event was fantastic and we had glorious weather, so fingers crossed! This year's fayre will be held on Sunday 20th July. We hope to see you there!

Precious

Many of you will know Precious, one of our resident cats. She's a lovely, friendly little cat who came to us as a kitten, when we were told she would not live very long. Several years later, she's still here! Poor Precious somehow damaged her tail recently, none of us know how she did it. She was always a bit of a climber and adventurer so we'll probably never know. The vet x-rayed the tail and said it was beyond repair so Precious had to have the tail amputated. She is currently recuperating in a foster home while she gets used to balancing without it. Although their tails are important, cats can manage quite well without them once they have got used to it, so we look forward to seeing her back at the cattery. She's such a character that she's being missed right now.

Patron

We are very pleased and excited to announce that Oldham Cats has a new patron: Rick Wakeman! We are thrilled to have such an influential and popular celebrity to support our work.

That's all for now, but rest assured that now the various technical problems are sorted out, you won't have to wait quite so long for another update. Remember to check out some of the heart-warming stories of cats we've found homes for in the success stories section of the 'our work' pages. Don't forget to send in your own stories to be featured.
