Sunday 5th February 2012
Hi everyone.....news is very limited right now as we are down on a couple of our regular volunteers.....never mind we are still functioning at the rescue. I have been asked to ask the public and fellow supporters to see if anyone has any unwanted gifts etc that would be suitable for some of our tombolas that we are running this year. We have some brilliant prizes usually but of late we have not had as much brought into the charity shop. Anything that you think could be used as a prize then please feel free to drop it off at the shop or if it closed then bring to the rescue. THANK YOU EVERYONE! Faye
Monday 3rd October......
Just to let everyone know that this years Christmas Fair is at the Jumbo Centre on Saturday 26th November. The usual details.....11am-3pm. If you want to help the rescue then get saving your pennies right now!!!!!
Just to thank everyone for their words of comfort on the sad loss of our volunteer Caroline. We are very grateful to the support that people has given to her Husband Graeme and Caroline's family. Also to the support of everyone who has given their donations to the rescue in lieu of flowers for her funeral. These donations are so greatly appreciated. Thank you, Faye. Rescue Manager

Caroline, with her beloved Chippie
9th September 2011 It is with deep regret that we inform all our very dear friends and cat lovers on the passing of one of our longstanding volunteers and Trustees, Mrs Caroline Barker. Our dear friend had been with us at the rescue for nearly 10 years and she had given a tremendous amount of time to both the rescue and our charity shop. Caroline had also played a huge role in fostering kittens and Mums with babies. She had even set up her very own "Cat Maternity" ward in her spare room to accommodate her temporary guests. We are all deeply saddened in her passing and she is in our thoughts. We also want to pass on our condolences to her Husband Graeme who has also been a huge support to our rescue. Without him (through a lot of persuasion from Caroline) we would not have had any of the new cages, "face-lifts" to the rescue and odd jobs done over the years. We are here to support Graeme at whatever time he may need us. Graeme, you and Caroline are in our thoughts and in our hearts.
R.I.P. Caroline, Chippy and you are now together as one. xxxxxxx

Hello Oldham Cats supporters, well lots has happened so far this year! Our Manager Lynda who was the founder of the rescue many many years ago has now retired. Our Deputy Manager Faye has now taken the position of Rescue Manager. We would like to thank Lynda for all her hard work, love and care over the many years she was here at Oldham Cats, without her the rescue would never have existed! Lynda's love, care and dedication has saved countless cats lives over the years. We send her a huge thank you as would all the cats (if they could talk!) for being at the cattery and teaching all the volunteers the ropes! - just so we can carry on her fantastic work! Thank you Lynda, enjoy your retirement - you deserve it!.
Sad News
In July, November and December of 2010 we sadly lost three of our long standing residents; Greta, Dougal and Ivan. They had all lived here at the rescue for many years and were loved greatly by all the volunteers. Greta was sadly put to sleep in July of last year, she was very old and it was just her time, she was adored for being such a couch potato and a heat worshipper!, she loved nothing better than to bask in front of the fire and run from one fire to the other in the office when the gas ran out!. Then our adorable Dougal who wasn't very old had an illness that came on so rapidly and he was so very poorly had to be put to sleep. Dougal was a complete sweetheart and a firm enemy of Ivan in the early days (a few fights had to be separated over the years!) but as they both aged, they both mellowed and did get along and became feline friends! they sorted out the younger males as a team - pecking order resumed!. Sadly Ivan passed away a month after Dougal died, Ivan was about 15-16 years old and he passed away of old age. If you knew Ivan he was definately the boss of all our residents and kept them inline with a firm paw! He loved to greet his human friends with a gentle headbutt and told you when he wanted his biscuits by swiping you with his paw!. I would personally like to think that Greta, Dougal and Ivan are all still together in cat heaven! together in the afterlife as they were in this life. Rest in peace Greta, Dougal and Ivan you were deeply loved and still greatly missed!.

Lastly our lovely rabbit Bobby who was born here at the rescue 9 years ago passed away on Monday 7th March. Bobby had become very quiet and wasn't eating much. He was taken to see the vet immediately, we wrapped him in his favourite yellow blanket for comfort and to keep him warm. The vet decided it would be kinder to have Bobby put to sleep as he was very old and probably wouldn't survive for many more days. So with a heavy heart we agreed to do the humane thing and have our dear old Bobby put to sleep. R.I.P Bobby. x x
