Aurora
Hi my name is Aurora and I am 8 years old. I have lived at Oldham Cats for many years now, I have my volunteers 'sorted' and they do pretty much as I tell them to do! Because I am a 'typical tortie' they tell me and am a bit 'temperamental' at time- blooming cheek of them! I am always in a good mood- but can I help it if the 'service' around here has to be complained about from time to time? One of the reasons why I am still here is most people want a lap cat who enjoys being cuddled from dawn till dusk and me being a Tortie I only enjoy a cuddle on my terms. The other reason I am here is that I have had a severe flea allergy in the past, due to neglect by my previous owners, at present I am on permanent steroid treatment via injection, which I do not enjoy one bit! Fortunately for me the time between each injection is getting greater which means my flea allergy is under control. Do you like my photo? This was taken when I was having a little 'rest' in the gazebo by the side of the office. I really do get the best of everything here at the rescue!.
Candy
Hi my name is Candy and I am 9 years old, I have lived at the rescue for many years now. My friends here at Oldham Cats say that without your help I could not be fed and looked after as well as I am. I am a bit of a loner really, You can't beat your own company I say! But, I do like to hang around the bungalow and pop in on Pat from time to time for food treats. Also Rose, who comes in the mornings brings me treats of salmon and tuna and lots of other 'special' treats. I think she brings them just for me really, but I do allow Maddie to share as we have been friends for such a long time - and I am always a 'lady'. We like to have our 'picnics' in the garden sometimes. We have a lovely variety of foods and when the sun is shining - and we are feeling like taking it easy- it's a wonderful way to pass an afternoon. We don't really invite any of the other resident cats to our little 'soirees' as they always seem quite happy to stay with the volunteers and share their sandwiches. Maddie and I don't 'do' sandwiches- we are better than that...! I have seen a lot of cats & their kittens come and go at Oldham Cats in my years here. Sometimes I think it might be nice to share a house with a 'human'- or family of them. But I look at my life here- I come and go as I please- wandering if the mood takes me into the fields- then coming back to the lovely warmth of our 'outhouse' to sleep and eat. I say hello to the humans if my mood takes me that way- I give them a wide berth if I don't feel like 'chatting'. It's nice not to have to do things when they want me too and just live for me (and Maddie).I couldn't be happier!
Honda
Hi my name is Honda and I am approximately 10 - 12 years old. I have lived at the rescue for many years now and I love it!. Its so much better than my previous life of being a stray. I get to come and go as I please and tasty food is always at the ready waiting for me to devour!!. Just look at how handsome I am!. I'm not one for mixing with the other cats so if you visit the rescue, if you look up you will normally find me sat on top of the gazebo lovingly gazing down at you. I might look a bit of a fluff ball sometimes but with me being a 'outdoor kind of cat' I'm not into all this grooming - and complain mightily!!. Recently I had to have another operation, I had cancer on my ears and to stop it spreading to my head I had to have my ears trimmed, I'm ok now though as I'm all healed up but the volunteers have to keep an eye on me. I love my life here at the cattery and I am so thankful and grateful to everyone who makes it possible for me to live this lovely life of excellent care from the volunteers and life saving veterinary treatment!!.
Maddie
Hi my name is Maddie and I am 9 years old. My friends here at Oldham Cats tell me that it is with help of people like you that all us residents are so well looked after and given the best vet treatment when needed.
As you may know I don’t really visit the cattery much during the day time when its busy. I am quite a shy girl, I like to come down for a good “nosey” around when its quiet. There is always plenty of yummy food placed around so I like to pick and choose, a bit like a pick and mix. I like to visit “Auntie Pat”, who lives at the bungalow every morning and she always has some yummy food for me too. As does “Auntie Rose” who is always at the cattery first thing in the morning to clean and check on all the cats and kittens who are “staying” at the cattery. I don’t really like to go inside houses, I much prefer to live outdoors, my coat has really improved over the years and is very thick and soft. I tend to sleep in the “outhouse” next to the bungalow and its all “kitted out” (no pun intended!!) for us with beds and trays and yes more food! Precious
Hi my name is Precious and I am 9 years old and so beautiful!!. My carers here at Oldham Cats say that without your help I would not be able to eat as well as I do or have our nice vet to look after me so well!! I arrived at the rescue as a kitten in very poor health, I had cat flu and acid burns on my nose, I nearly didn't make it but thanks to the volunteers and excellent veterinary care I pulled through!. I lost my tail in an accident a few years ago, I am now quite happy with my ‘new look’(I was a bit upset when I lost it at first!) but now I think it makes me look quite sleek and I need a little help in that direction at the moment, weight loss is always an issue with us ladies! Toby, one of the other residents, is mad keen on hunting and brings back quite a good collection of various creatures; I have become very wise in my older age and sometimes, if I am feeling I fancy some ‘fresh’ food but am also feeling a bit lazy- then I lay in wait for Toby to come up the drive with his latest ‘bounty’ and I ‘relieve’ him of it! As you can tell, I am still a cheeky young lady! But it just makes me very loveable.... don’t you think?
I am so sweet natured I like nothing more than a cuddle from all my human friends, I have to insist that I get the best cuddle ever! by sitting on your shoulder and rubbing my head against yours, just listen to my purr!!. I am one happy cat!! I hope to stay here forever, I am adored by many and its so safe for me here as there are no busy roads, good job really as I have no road sense since I've lived here from being a kitten.
Toby
Hi my name is Toby and I am 6 years old. My friends here at Oldham Cats say that with your help that I get so well looked after – being fed so well and also getting the best treatment from the vets.
As you might know I have “diabetes” and I have to have an injection every morning with something called “insulin”. My carers say I am doing really well and the vet is very happy with me too. Since I have been feeling so fit and well I have been hunting quite a bit. My carers say that I am naughty, as I have all the food I need here at the cattery, but I just can’t help myself. I go into the fields for a walk and if I see a mouse or a bird looking at me in the ‘wrong way’.... I just have to put it in its place!. I love to chase them and when I catch them I like to share my good fortune by taking it up to my carers. Sometimes I creep up the drive, mouse firmly in mouth and cheeky little Precious will stand in front of me and demand – yes demand! , that I drop it for her. Me being such a gentleman I normally give it to her, but what a blooming cheek – don’t you think?
I really love being a resident here at Oldham Cats I get the best of everything and I couldn't be happier!. I'm still as busy as ever, playing in the fields although I've not noticed as many creatures recently... they must be onto me?... hiding!! I'll have to change my tactics or find a disguise; maybe a change of collar?, no doubt my "hawk eyes" will find them soon though!!!.
TIGGA
Hi my name is Tigga and I am the latest of the residents to arrive, I came in June 2010. I am about 3-4 years old. I was found as a stray by one of the rescues volunteers. I got my paws firmly under her table as she took me to her house and after a while I got a bit too big for my boots. I caused a fight with one of her own cats and it needed vet treatment. I then came to the rescue. It was tried for many weeks to rehome me and eventually someone did adopt me. Unfortunately I have a problem with my bottom my 'poohs' do not form properly. I've had vet treatment for this but nothing seemed to work. The people then brought me back as my condition did not improve. I have since been let out from my cage and I love life at the rescue.. It was then suggested from a supporter that I be checked for diabetes as they had a cat with similar symptoms. I've had this done but the tests are negative. I am currently on steroids for the next two weeks (as at 15th October 2010) and the volunteers are to keep check on my "deposits" (poor them). If there is an improvement then I will continue with the steroids and hopefully I will be as happy as can be for the time I have at the rescue. I am a real soft boy and love to be cuddled and stroked and I usually hang around the rescue for my regular visits from the public.
SCOOBY Hi my name is Scooby I am 7 years old. I came to the rescue in March 2011. I was brought to the rescue as my previous owners said I didn't get along with her child or other cat. I was in the main cattery awhile, but unfortunately the right person didn't come along to adopt me so hence I was given freedom from my cage and I have now become a resident here at Oldham Cats. Well I have settled in nicely, I love my new life here, lots of fields to play and run about in and plenty of outdoor igloos to sleep in if I fancy a night under the stars! I am a lovely little charmer and a complete sweetheart; I have won the hearts of all the volunteers here already!. I love my life here at the rescue so please would you consider sponsoring me to enable me to continue living this fantastic life! Thank you. x x
SPARKLE & TWINKLE
We are the adorable twosome Sparkle & Twinkle!!
We are both 10 years old, and we are in good health thanks to the volunteers here at Oldham Cats. My name is Sparkle and I am a big white goat, I arrived at the rescue way back in 2001 and my companion Twinkle who is a small brown 'Pigmy' goat arrived a year after me in 2002. Due to my age creeping up on me I am now suffering with abit of arthritis and I am currently on daily medication, which I am so grateful for. My friend Twinkle, (who thinks she's the boss!) can still run about like a race horse!! I'm sure she only does it to show off!. We live in the fenced off field at the side of the cattery, we have a shed each to sleep in and lots of comfy straw to sleep on. We absolutely adore our meals, we are given goat mix with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables daily; all of this is then topped up with a generous helping of hay to chew on!. We love our life here at the cattery and never want to leave, we are so very well looked after thanks to our wonderful volunteers. We now have a good life but what would help greatly is if people could kindly sponsor us, to enable all the excellent care to continue. Thank you.
CHICKENS
Hello there folks! We are the latest addition to Oldham Cats. Allow me to introduce everyone!! My name is Bernard and I am the white male and the 6 lovely brown hens are my girls! At present we are awaiting a 'photo shoot', you see my girls want to look their best so they are busy preening themselves!!.
On a typical day we leave our barn and go into the fields with the goats, I tell you it's glorious!, lots of worms to be eaten, digging, and basking in the sunshine. After a day of leisure we head back to our barn where lots of fresh fruit and vegetables have been kindly grated and put down for us by the volunteers, along with fresh water and food pellets. We even have a sand pit to play in, and sometimes as a treat we will find mealworms hidden inside!!!! After a good feed we like nothing better than having a snooze on one of the many hay beds set out for us.
The girls lay eggs daily as a thank you to all the volunteers for all the love and care they show us, its so nice to live here, our life before wasn't very good... We get the best of everything at the rescue and as a result we are now in excellent health!!!
Please come and visit us soon, you will be able to find your way easy! Just listen out for my cock-a-doodle-dooooooo!!!!!!!! I'm so good at it now! We have a lovely life here; please bear us in mind for sponsorship. Thank you
Pugsy
Hi my name is Pugsy and I am 3 years old and the newest cat to become a resident. I was given my freedom from the main cattery on the 14 Feb 11 as I had been in my cage for a month, hoping that some kind soul would adopt me but alas the right person didn't come along. You can't miss me I am a big white cat with extremely gorgeous eyes and a very handsome lad if I do say so myself. I was very nervous when I was first allowed to roam freely around the cattery grounds, all the other residents hanging around worried me slightly, so I took to hiding away and only showed my face when I was hungry. After careful observation of the humans and my fellow feline kind; I have realised that no one here is out to harm me and I have taken to sleeping infront of the fire in the main cattery, its so warm and cosy! It has been questioned by my carers here at the rescue that I may be deaf? now I can't tell them if I am or not as they don't understand cat language, sometimes I do respond to noise other times I don't, so it has left all these humans guessing!! Either way it doesn't matter if I am deaf or not as I know that I will still receive the excellent love and care from all of the volunteers here at the rescue, but what would help greatly is if some kind soul could sponsor me, to enable me to live this lovely life. Thank you.
ICKLE Hi my name is Ickle and I am a rather large tabby lady!. I am approximately 7 years old. I came to the rescue way back in February and unfortunately the right person did not come along to adopt me... Well as of Monday the 4th April it was decided by the volunteers that I should be given freedom from my cage and be allowed to live here at the rescue. Well what can I say? I absolutely love it here, the volunteers are wonderful and the scenery is great!. I've met afew of my fellow feline residents and not one cross word was said... very welcoming I must say!!. One of the volunteers has started calling me Big Mamma! I actually don't mind as its when I get lots of fuss and attention and I love it, I even let one of them groom me on Monday and normally I'd refuse. Well I've decided to set up camp in the cattery building; lounging about in one of the beds in front of the gas fire! absolute heaven! I even got given breakfast in bed!. Please come and visit me at the rescue I am afterall still available for adoption if the right gentleman or lady comes along... or would you be willing to consider sponsoring me? to enable me to be live in these wonderful surroundings with as much food as I'd like (I'm sure I heard someone mention the word diet!!..) and of course any veterinary care I may need in the future. Thank you so much. x x
Ickle .. enjoying her new life in the Oldham Cats garden area.
TWIRL
