Adopting an adult cat

Please note that the process for adoption a kitten is different. If this is what you would like to learn about, please scroll further down the page

The first thing to do is find the perfect cat for you. You can check on our Facebook page in the 'featured' tab to see which cats are available for adoption. You will need to visit the rescue, either to meet a specific cat, or just to come and see who is awaiting a home. You do not need an appointment and we are open 11-3 everyday except Tuesday.

Once you have found or connected with a particular cat, the volunteer in attendance with you that day will assess your suitability for the cat and have a chat about your general situation. If everyone agrees that it is a good match you will be able to adopt the lucky kitty. If there are no outstanding health procedures you would be allowed pay a deposit (minimum £40 per cat) and return for the little one at an arranged time.

Any adult cat adopted from this shelter will be neutered, microchipped, flea & worm treated, examined by a vet and given at least their first vaccination (depending on how long they have been with us).  Vaccinations come in 2 parts that have to be administered 3-4 weeks apart. If you are adopting a cat that has only had the first component, you will be responsible for taking them for the 2nd component. You will also be given samples of the food and litter they have been used to, so when everything else feels different, that will be familiar.

How to adopt a kitten

Kitten adoption works differently as we have to co-ordinate when they are old enough to be rehomed, and that they are all rehomed at the same time to avoid leaving a single kitten alone. If you know you are ready for a kitten then we ask that you register your interest with our deputy manager, Davina, using this email address kittensoldhamcats@gmail.com

When emailing, please give an idea of when you are looking to adopt. Anything you think may be relevant to matching you to a kitten, let us know. Please be sure to include your daytime phone number. Davina will hopefully match you to a kitten when a litter that is suitable becomes available. You will then be able to come in and meet your kitten and pay a deposit to reserve them for when they are old enough for rehome.

When you take your little one home you will be given samples of the food and litter, just so this is familiar when everything else is new. The kitten (or  kittens) will have had their first vaccination, and it will be explained how to go about getting the 2nd component. You'll also be told when to bring your little one to the nominated vet for neutering - which is covered by the adoption fee. Please note this is part of the adoption agreement, if you choose to go use a different vet this will have to be funded by yourselves.
